Meet our newest UK Consultants

The second instalment of our new September joiners, tell-all about ‘Landing at Lancia.’

In September, nine shiny new consultants joined our team, and they've been busy embracing life as what we call ‘LAL’ers.

Why? Because 'LAL' is short for our 'Landing at Lancia' programme, it's how we welcome, train, get to know, and introduce new joiners to our business. It's fun, full-on, you learn so much, and within a few weeks, you're off!

Want to know how some of our September joiners found ‘Landing at Lancia’?

Here, we check in with Emily Horrocks-Taylor, Oscar Cryer, and Dan Berry.

A:
University of Bristol, studying Psychology

Q: What do you love about living in Bristol?
A:
The city is super lively, steaming with good brunch spots, bars, and live events. Bristol is constantly striving to be more sustainable, and in general is just full of great people!

Q: Tell us a fun fact about you.
A: I got scouted by the producer for Guns N' Roses to sing when I was 13, but I ridiculously never followed up on the offer...I don't know what I was thinking!

Q: Why did you choose consulting?
A:
I worked for 180DC (a student-led consultancy firm) whilst at university, which sold consultancy for me. The everchanging nature of projects allows me to gain a wide range of skills and no project is the same, which keeps it interesting. The fast-paced environment means we progress quickly and are never limited to just one project.

Q: What were your first 2 weeks of life at LanciaConsult like?
A:
Landing at Lancia (LAL) has been an informative, supportive, and stimulating training program. The entire Lancia team has been committed to providing an action-packed training schedule where their passion for Lancia has shone through. We have had a wide range of training sessions, from how to prioritise our time to client spotlights and project management training. I specifically enjoyed the client overviews, showing the wide range of projects Lancia manages.

Traveling to the Belfast office for our second week of LAL was a highlight, especially considering I have never been to Ireland before! It was great to put names to faces across the Europeans offices, and it made us feel more connected with the team and involved right from the outset.

In the week following, we were encouraged to put some core consulting skills into practice through case studies and presentations. This was helpful to consolidate what we had learned throughout LAL and practise our presenting skills in a safe environment. Overall, LAL has been an insightful training program. I am appropriately prepared to get stuck into client work, putting what I have learned into practice.

Q: What were your first 2 weeks of life at LanciaConsult like?
A:
The first ten days at LanciaConsult, or 'Landing at Lancia,' have been incredible! As a graduate cohort, we have connected with all the European offices, which has been fantastic. The team has graciously offered valuable insights and guidance every step of the way.

During Landing at Lancia, we learned the fundamental elements of management consultancy. From seminars on Excel to confidence in meetings and even dress codes on client sites! The first two weeks have prepared me well as I have a firm idea about how LanciaConsult operates regarding its projects, clients and internally.

What makes being a part of LanciaConsult so interesting is the diverse team. Individuals bring their unique experience and expertise to projects, allowing the team to approach complex business problems from many angles to find the best solution. This environment fosters a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

We also got a good taste of what the actual projects look like. LanciaConsult advises organisations on large transformation projects, project management assistance, and change management implementation. Through workshops and seminars, we gained valuable insights into a wide range of project types and the intricacies involved in their execution.

Overall, the onboarding process at LanciaConsult has been incredibly rewarding and insightful. I can't wait to get stuck into client work and grow with LanciaConsult!

The plethora of excellent restaurants and pubs found within the city.

Q: Tell us a fun fact about you.
A:
I've snorkelled over the great barrier reef.

Q: Why did you choose consulting?
A:
I wanted to broaden my knowledge and understanding of a variety of different sectors and get stuck into different aspects of work each day, to see which I enjoy the most.

Q: What were your first 2 weeks of life at LanciaConsult like?
A:
In my first two weeks as a member of the Lancia consult team, I loved meeting the Bristol and Belfast teams. Everyone was helpful and welcoming, going out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Experiencing the different offices was a highlight of my week, seeing the almost 'palace-like' building of the Belfast office and immersing myself in the beautiful surroundings of the Bristol office. I was most intrigued to hear how Lancia came to be, their ethos, and how they came to acquire global companies while maintaining a high level of impact work in the 3rd sector.

Over the two weeks, I've learned a lot about Lancia's way of consulting and how it differs from that of other companies. It is clear they care about delivering impact to clients. This insight has made me very excited to get stuck into all their intriguing projects and any projects they may win in the future!

Q: Describe the LanciaConsult vibe in 3 words.
A: Open, encouraging and diverse
