Beyond the Internship: Hailey's Consulting Journey

Hear from Hailey as she shares her experience from intern to a full-time Consultant at Lancia!

Having completed her internship with us during her university days, Hailey Lin is no stranger to our team. We're excited that she's now officially a full-time consultant, ready to continue her impressive journey and contribute to our clients' success. In this Q&A below, Hailey shares insights into her inspiring transition from Analyst to Consultant!

Tell us about your educational and professional background.

I graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, specialising in Marketing and Business Analytics. Most of my internships were marketing-focused but close to the digital space, e.g. e-commerce marketing at Johnson & Johnson, product marketing strategy at TikTok, and digital and social media marketing strategy at Accenture Song.

Share a fun fact about yourself!

I hit my quarter life crisis a bit early and signed up for my first half marathon this year…

What motivated you to pursue a full-time career with Lancia after completing your internship?

As my first consulting internship, I liked that I learnt a lot and was given ownership over my work. Since I highly value learning and growth in the early years of my career, I felt that although the work at Lancia would be challenging, I would be stretched to learn as much as I could. As an intern, I also greatly appreciated the trust my team placed in me; I was given the opportunity to interact directly with the client. I felt that Lancia would continue to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for me to grow as a consultant.

How have your role and responsibilities evolved since transitioning from an intern to a full-time consultant?

I was given even more responsibilities after transitioning to a full-time consultant. For example, as an intern, I was responsible for one minor workstream of the project. Now, as a full-time consultant, I am responsible for the whole project, though it is a relatively smaller-scale one. I am tasked with project management, designing the solution, user testing, and more. As a full-time consultant, I am also expected to pick up more technical knowledge. I now take on some of the build requirements that extend beyond simple UI/UX changes.

How did your internship experience prepare you for the demands and challenges of being a full-time consultant here?

One major advantage is that I am already familiar with the team, and I understand how some team members work. While I am not working with the same people as when I was an intern, it is easier to build rapport and warm up to the new colleagues after interacting with them during company events as an intern. Being able to work well with your team definitely helps when going through the ups and downs of a project lifecycle as a full-time consultant.

What are you most excited about in your new role as a full-time consultant at Lancia?

I am excited to be exposed to a wide range of project scopes and potential clients to hone both my hard and soft skills as a full-time consultant. I would also very much look forward to business-related travel if the opportunity presents itself in the future!

Based on your journey, what advice would you give to current or prospective interns considering a career at Lancia?

The work at Lancia is challenging, more so as a full-time consultant, but also interesting and rewarding! As a smaller consulting firm, there are more hands-on and direct client-facing opportunities that do not necessarily come easily at bigger firms with more organisational hierarchy. If you enjoy the work as an intern, give it a shot as a full-time consultant!
