Welcoming Darryl Petticrew into the team at LanciaConsult

Meet Darryl, our newest kid on the block joining our Belfast team as a Managing Consultant

Q: You are now 58 days into your role at Lancia. What do you make of it so far?
A: I am absolutely loving it! I am happier, feel more engaged than ever and genuinely challenged by the work I’m involved in. Lancia is fiercely ambitious, and I felt that energy from day one. Working with great people makes the difference in any job and over the course of my career I have been lucky to experience that consistently. Lancia is no different and places a huge emphasis on community which has really helped me integrate with the business. A great line from our Belfast Principal, Jonny, really sums up the value that each new member of Lancia brings; ‘we focus on culture add over culture fit’ – this means every person who joins the team, helps shape our business.

Q: What were you doing before you joined us?
A: Prior to joining Lancia, I spent around five years with Deloitte, in their Human Capital practise based in Belfast.

Q: How long have you worked in consulting?
A: I’ve not had the most traditional route into Consulting having spent around eight years working in the Third Sector and with Ulster Rugby! From there I spent a number of years working with Central & Local Government in Northern Ireland before moving into a 'Big four’ environment with Deloitte.

Q: What sort of projects do you work on?
A: I specialise in Programme & Project Delivery, which gives me a flavour for a diverse range of projects from Tax Transformations through to implementation of global Human Resource systems. In most recent times I’ve spent quite a lot of time on digital transformation programmes, working with clients to transform how they work and implement new technology to enhance their business.

Q: Why did you decide to move from the ‘Big four’ world to Lancia?
A: I loved my time at Deloitte and probably would have comfortably stayed there for the rest of my career. However, I had a real craving for building and shaping something from the ground up, being closer to decision making and fast paced growth – Lancia offers this and more.

Q: What do you think are the main differences between working at a ‘big four’ and life here at Lancia?
A: Scale of business is the obvious one but there are three stand out differences for me:

  • How we work with our clients – I get a better sense of their business, their needs and where we can help them.
  • Active contribution to shaping the business – my colleagues and I are very much collectively responsible for shaping the business, bringing learnings to leadership and implementing changes.
  • The opportunities and exposure we are given – I have been blown away by the calibre of people we have overall but especially our more junior team members who are stepping into complex client roles much sooner than would be the case at bigger firms.

Q: What are you most excited about when you think of your future at Lancia?
A: Growing our footprint on the island of Ireland. There is enormous potential with Lancia and everyone is energised by our ambitions for growth.

Q: Why did you choose a career in consulting?
A: I love the pace and the change of the work. Building relationships with clients and team members to help solve important problems really excites me and consulting is an excellent place learn a lot in a short space of time.

Q: What are the best bits about what you do? What gets your buzzing about your job?
A: By far, the best part of my job is working with amazing people (both Lancia and client side) to develop solutions. I’m at my best when with people, developing ideas and workshopping challenging topics.

Q: Why Lancia? For you? In 10 words or less?
A: Fast growing, awesome people, and huge opportunity.
